Volunteer with us.

Fruit Rescue is a flexible way to give back to community.

You choose the days and times that suit you, and you get to take home a share of the fruit from each harvest you attend.

Benefits.

  • Fresh fruit to share with your friends and family.

  • Enjoy some gentle exercise plus fresh air and the great outdoors.

  • Meet new friends in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

  • Rescue a wasted resource, reducing methane emissions.

  • Stop the pest cycle, improving outcomes for all fruit tree keepers.

  • If you're up for some outdoor harvest fun, and want to make connections in your neighbourhood, you’re in the right place. When you volunteer with us, you get to take home a share in one-third of the fruits you help pick, while helping share this resource across our community.

Fresh air, good company, and a relaxed vibe. That's what you'll find when you join our picking events. It's all about making new friends while you enjoy some gentle exercise.

Once you're in, keep an eye on your inbox because we'll let you know when there's a harvest opportunity. We might have two or three harvests in a day in peak ripening season. You can take your pick (literally) by registering your spot through the link in the email.

  • Start by filling out the application form below, or swing by the Warrnambool Community Garden or Archie Graham Community Centre to grab a paper copy.

We'll process your application. It's just to make sure we have the right info.

Next, you'll do a simple induction to make sure you know what happens at the harvests.

We'll sign you up to our mailing list and Facebook group so you'll never miss a pick.

You’ll have the flexibility to book yourself into the sessions that suit your schedule.

Get ready to harvest and take home the fruits of your labor.

  • Picks are on public or private land, always with permission of the person who registers the tree.

Dress in clothes that can get dirty with sturdy shoes, a hat, sunglasses and a water bottle.

You’ll follow the instructions of the harvest leader and respect the property and people involved.

The harvest leader will explain which trees are being harvested, how to tell if it’s ripe and any other info you need to know.

We’ll provide you with any equipment needed and you can bring anything you think might be useful. Remember bags or boxes for the fruit you’ll take home.

If you can’t go up a ladder, no problem. We have picking poles that can reach higher-up fruit.

Once the fruit is all picked, we’ll weigh it out and divide it up. You’ll help pack up and then take home your share.
